Stefan Carlsson - Athlete
When the stakes were at their highest, Stefan Carlsson wasat the height of his game.
In his most important competitions as a golfer at Butler County Community College in 2014 and 2015, Carlsson finished as a medalist in two tournaments in Pennsylvania, and as an All-American in two tournaments in New York. Carlsson is the only golfer in BC3 history to be twice recognized with the prestigious post-season All-American award.
He finished as a medalist in leading the Pioneers to team titles in the Pennsylvania Invitational Tournament in fall 2014 in Fayetteville, and in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Region XX championships in spring 2015 in Latrobe. In the two-round competitions, Carlsson won the state tournament with a 153 by one stroke, and the regional championships with a 154 by four strokes.
Carlsson competed twice in the NJCAA Division III championships in Chautauqua, N.Y., where a golfer who finishes in the Top 18 in a field of nearly 100 is awarded All-American status. The stakes were at their highest. And Carlsson was again at the height of his game.
He placed 10th in 2014 with rounds of 77, 74, 74 and 75, and became the Pioneers’ third All-American in golf. He placed 15th in 2015 with rounds of 77, 78, 76 and 78, and became the Pioneers’ first two-time All-American in golf. Carlsson was selected to the NJCAA Division III Region XX All-Tournament team in 2014 and in 2015.
Carlsson is one of four BC3 student-athletes to have twice been named an NJCAA Division III All-American since 1971. He is employed by Oakmont Country Club in Plum.
Nicole (Sebastian) Bajuszik - Athlete
Nicole (Sebastian) Bajuszik became the first full-time setter for the Butler County Community College volleyball team under Coach Rob Snyder in 2002. Then she became a record-setter.
During her two-year career with BC3, Sebastian registered 1,360 assists, a total no other Pioneer player has topped in the nearly two decades since her final game for BC3 in 2003. Those assists helped the Pioneers to compile a combined 48-12 record in the 2002 and 2003 seasons. Those assists helped the Pioneers to win two Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference crowns, two National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Region XX titles and two Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association state championships. And those assists helped the Pioneers to clinch the program’s first appearance in the NJCAA Division III championships in Minnesota in 2002, which, Sebastian said, was an amazing experience.
Sebastian was equally amazing. As a team captain in each of her seasons with the Pioneers, Sebastian finished fifth in the NJCAA’s Division III with 8.2 assists per set in 2002, and 14th with 7.5 in 2003.She was twice named to the WPCC All-Conference squad and to the NJCAA Division III All-Region XX team. She was also selected to the NJCAA Division III Region XX All-Tournament squad and to the PCAA All-State team.
Sebastian earned an associate degree at BC3, then transferred to La Roche University, where she also played volleyball, served as a team captain and ranks third in assists in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. Sebastian has been head coach of La Roche’s women’s volleyball team since 2012 and was named the AMCC Coach of the Year in 2014.
